The U.S. Department of Agriculture will hold a commodity distribution on Saturday, Feb. 2, in Cortez, Dolores, and Mancos. There are new times for winter distributions; items to be given away will be leftovers from the Colorado Springs warehouse.
The distribution for Cortez will be from 7:30 to 8 a.m. at the Montezuma County Fairgrounds, 30100 U.S. Hwy. 160; in Dolores from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m., at the Dolores Fire Hall, 45 Railroad Ave.; and in Mancos from 7:30 to 8:30 a.m. at the United Methodist Church, 470 Grand Ave.
If clients are not able to go to a give-away in person, they can give their card and a note of authorization to someone else to pick up commodities for them. They must have a card and note, or they will not be able to pick up commodities. Participants are reminded that they must bring their own box for their commodities. The agriculture department cannot supply enough boxes for everyone.
If you haven't gotten your 2013 commodity card (cards are good for the calendar year) you can obtain them at the following places and times. Only one card per household; you must bring a copy of your proof of income for 2012 to be left at the office. You must also bring proof of physical address and a Social Security number for only the head of the household. Cards may be obtained at the following places and times: Cortez - Senior Services office in the annex, 107 N. Chestnut, on Wednesdays only, 9 to 11 a.m.; Dolores - Dolores Community Center, 400 Riverside, on Wednesdays only, 11 a.m. to noon; Mancos - Masonic Lodge Senior Center, 141 E. Montezuma, Wednesdays only, 9 to 11 a.m. Contact the office for new gross monthly income guidelines to see if you are eligible.
