"We took Faye's mother and my folks and got married in Aztec, N.M. We had $18 when we got married," Russel said, and they were both 18 at the time.

Sheriff Martin, Undersheriff Tim Rowell, and Colorado State Patrolman Gary Smith had all met with the Dolores County School Board in a pre-meeting gathering to discuss school security. Superintendent Bruce Hankins said that unfortunately school shootings are generally over in five minutes. The Sheriff's Office may be only two blocks from the school, but even if there is an officer there, it would be too late before he could disable someone who was intent on killing students and teachers. Later in the meeting Randolph read, and the Board approved, a resolution approving concealed carry permits for Ty Gray and Hankins. Both had already started and will continue taking the necessary classes.

County officials are worried. If the US Fish and Wildlife has its way, a good part of western Dolores County and eastern San Juan County Utah will be designated critical habitat. If that happens, it could have a huge effect on oil and gas production. Dolores County's assessed value jumped considerably last year and now oil and gas production provides almost 60 percent of the County's tax revenue.

Congressman Cory Gardner facilitated a meeting Monday between EAGLE-Net, the federal agency that suspended its grant for broadband connections and the Colorado Telecommunications Association. Representatives from Sens. Mark Udall's and Michael Bennet's offices also attended. Gardner told the Plaindealer he is concerned about overbuilding of infrastructure that EAGLE-Net pursued, but he acknowledged that in counties such as Ouray, where EAGLE-Net has laid fiber and was set to light it when the National Telecommunications and Information Administrations suspended the project, there ar no allegations of wrong-doing.
