Dr. R. T. Speck, of McPhee, has been named department surgeon of the Veterans of Foreign wars, according to a statement made at the Star office yesterday by Commander M. R. Malone, of the local post of that organization. Dr. Speck served in the well known fighting thirty-fifth division in the world war and his appointment to this high position in the veterans organization is largely in recognition of his splendid service.

The Dolores Rifle club has been issued a charter by the National Rifle association, according to announcement made today at the headquarters of the association here. The officers of the new club are C. H. Webb, president; M. A. Plumlee, vice-president; A. D. Ferrick, secretary-treasurer, and O. L. Pritchett, executive officer. The club is one of about 2,800 active rifle shooting clubs affiliated with the National Rifle association.

P. N. Kuykendall, who was convicted on a murder charge in Rio Arriba County, New Mexico, has received word that the finding of the court had been reversed by the New Mexico supreme court and that instead of having been tried for murder, he should have been arraigned on a manslaughter charge at the most. Mr. Kuykendall is making his home in the Dolores vicinity. Kuykendall was charged with the killing of a Mexican deputy sheriff near Tierra Amarilla more than a year ago. He was wounded by the officer and it is Kuykendall's belief that the officer intended to kill him after taking him into custody.

Ed Boehm reports a good patronage at his turkey dinner and the occasion of the opening of his new Del Rio Cafe last Saturday. Mr. Boehm is putting on a special chicken dinner this Sunday.

Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Smith entertained a number of friends last Friday evening, celebrating their wedding anniversary. All report a most pleasant time. The hostess served a dainty luncheon.

James Drury, made his arrival at the home of Mr. and Mrs. James Porter in Dolores Sunday morning. His brother, Charles, says that when he cries, "he sure says a mouthful." All concerned are doing nicely.

Ranger Ward Emerson and Avon Denham and Game Warden Jack Moss made a trip up the river Tuesday, Emerson stopping off at Stoner while the other two went on to Rico. They report the road in good shape for travel and they made the trip down from Rico in two hours. In the vicinity of Bear Creek coyotes have been killing a few deer and Mr. Moss is taking steps to do away with a number of the coyotes in that vicinity.
