A very interesting article recently appeared in a mountain climbing magazine concerning a very early climb of Lizard Head. **************************
Glen Grace brought the article which had been forwarded to him by his son, Glen Grace, Jr., from Olympia, Washington. It says that in 1920, rock climbing was in its infancy in the United States and there were few climbers. A 1932 article in Geological Survey referring to Colorado's Lizard Head as "Insurmountable" provided a couple of men a chuckle as they had performed the feat of climbing in the 14,246 rocky point from which Lizard Head Pass received its name. Albert Ellingwood and friend, Barton Hoag, made the climb in August of 1920.
