V. T. Boyd and C. R. Hoffman, both local residents, have opened a new lumber yard in Cortez called "The Wood Shed." The new business will be managed by Hoffman and located at 116 N. Broadway.

Jack Booth, former Glade District Ranger, will be in Dolores for about two months after being detailed here by Regional Forester Bill Lucas to prepare an environmental analysis of the undeveloped areas of the San Juan National forest. He will be assisted by Ranger Clyde Steel and his staff and by personnel from the Forest Supervisors office n Durango.

Fanciers of old things will have a chance to buy an old wall-type crank telephone next month as Sky-High Ski Club offers to sell four of them. They were recently taken down from the ski club's lift lines at Stoner and replaced with newer ones.

A contract agreement for prospective growers of sunflowers has been worked out and will be presented to growers at three public meetings scheduled for this week. Anyone interested can sign the contract at one of these meetings.

Approximately 2,300,000 board feet of Ponderosa Pine saw logs will be sold in the near future in the House Creek area of the Glade District, San Juan National Forest. The purpose of this sale is to remove disease susceptible over mature old growth as well as perform a commercial thinning in the young, residual stands. The timber purchaser will construct approximately 2 miles of road westward from the Dolores-Norwood road towards Beaver Rim. Following the harvest of timber, spur roads and skid trails will be seeded to grass.

A new Forest Service headquarters building is to be built in Dolores this year and will be located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Highway 145 and Fourth Street according to information supplied by Jack D. Payne of Moab, Utah, who was successful bidder for furnishing the new facility. The new building will face the highway and will be built on property owned by Richard Tibbits and under option to be sold to Mr. Payne.

Effective March 30, 1973, all roads on Taylor Mesa, Dolores Ranger District, San Juan National forest will be closed to public use until further notice because of melting snow, thawing conditions, deep rutting and all the mud.

Alex Vigil was admitted and released from Southwest Memorial Hospital on Sunday. Mrs. Vigil was taken to the hospital in Cortez by ambulance on Wednesday morning.

Lois Rash went home with Mr. and Mrs. Joe Martin Sunday of last week, after they had spent the weekend her in Dolores. **************************
Mrs. Rash and the Martins enjoyed the concert given in Moab by the Utah Symphony Orchestra on Monday night. This outstanding musical group of 75 musicians have played all over the United States and Europe.

Dr. and Mrs. J. D. Hathaway flew to Denver over the spring vacation and then on to Kansas City to visit with Mrs. Hathaway parents. They then visited Emporia, Kansas where Dr. Hathaway viewed a project being completed that he had worked on while he was at Greeley.
