Improvements begin for U.S. Highway 491

Project includes passing lanes, left-hand turn into Woody’s
Mike McVaugh with the Colorado Department of Transportation listens to Ute Mountain Ute Tribal Councilwomen Colleen Cuthair and DeAnne House give remarks about a highway improvement project north of Towaoc.
The first shovels of dirt are moved for a $11.2 million project to improve a 2.5 mile section U.S. Highway 491/160 north of Towaoc with passing lanes, turn lanes, and wider shoulders. The Ute Mountain Ute domestic water line will also be upgraded.
Rear-end crashes like this one in February in front of Woody’s convenience store on U.S. 491/160 will be reduced when a left-turn lane is installed this summer.
