Tuesday, Feb. 4
12:15 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Southwest Memorial Hospital, 1311 N. Mildred Road, about a woman reportedly kicked and punched a nurse. While being arrested, the woman allegedly kicked an officer in the knee. She was arrested on suspicion of third-degree assault and for harassment and was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
1:16 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., to take a report from a man who said several items had been stolen from his car in the Walmart parking lot.
1:42 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., to arrest a woman who turned herself in on an active warrant. She was left in custody of the Montezuma County Detention Center.
4:15 p.m. An officer on patrol in the 1800 block of East Main Street recognized a man who had an active warrant. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Wednesday, Feb. 5
10:50 a.m. An officer dispatched to Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., issued active warrants to two male inmates.
3:02 p.m. An officer dispatched to United Methodist Church, 515 N. Park St., responded to a call about an intoxicated person sleeping on a bench. The suspect was arrested on an active warrant and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
7:27 p.m. An officer was patrolling near Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., looking for suspects in a possible assault. He encountered two men walking in the area and interviewed them as possible suspects. One of the men had several active warrants. He was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
8:16 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Denny’s, 2059 E. Main. St., about a reported trespasser. The suspect was arrested for violating a protection order banning the consumption of alcohol. He was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
11:33 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the National 9 Inn, 301 W. Main St., about a report of a disturbance. A couple was involved in a verbal dispute. The man gave a false name at first. When his correct name was obtained, he had an active warrant. He was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Thursday, Feb. 6
11:04 a.m. An officer was dispatched to Safeway, 1580 E. Main St., about a reported shoplifting. A suspect was being issued a summons for trespassing and shoplifting three cans a beer, when he grabbed the summons from the officer and threw it to the ground. The man was told he would charged for littering if he didn’t pick up the summons. He refused. The man was arrested for shoplifting and littering. He was medically cleared at Southwest Memorial Hospital because of intoxication and was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
3:03 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the lobby of the Cortez Police Department, 608 N. Park St., to take a report about a stolen license plate.
10:25 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Denny’s, 2059 E. Main St., about a reported trespasser. The suspect was intoxicated. He was arrested for violating a protection order banning the consumption of alcohol and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Saturday, Feb. 7
3:48 p.m. An officer was informed by a detective that a man with an active warrant was at a house in the 700 block of North Mildred Road. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
6:35 p.m. An officer was on patrol in the initial block of Ash Street when he observed a car disregarding a red traffic light. The male driver had a revoked license. He was arrested for driving on a revoked license and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
7:32 p.m. An officer was on patrol near City Market, 508 E. Main St., when he observed a fight in the parking lot. Both men appeared intoxicated and claimed the other was the aggressor. Both men were arrested for disturbing the peace and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
8:12 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 300 block of Ash Street to take a report about a purse stolen from a vehicle.
Sunday, Feb. 8
9:42 a.m. An officer was dispatched to the 500 block of South Market Street about a report of property damage. A man reported new graffiti on a building on the block.
10:19 a.m. An officer was patrolling near City Market, 508 E. Main St., when he observed a man whom he recognized as having active warrants. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
11:35 a.m. An officer was dispatched to Safeway, 1580 E. Main St., about a reported shoplifting. An employee showed the officer video of the incident. A suspect was later located near Autozone. He was issued a summons for shoplifting.
4:48 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the 1500 block of South Cedar Street about a report of a domestic violence incident. An intoxicated woman involved in the dispute was arrested on an active warrant and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
5:50 p.m. An officer was in the 600 block of East Main Street when he heard a loud bang from a dumpster in a parking lot. A man had exited the dumpster, and it appeared to be on fire. The man appeared intoxicated. He was arrested for violating a protection order banning the consumption of alcohol and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
8:04 p.m. An officer was patrolling near West Downey Street and North Linden Street when he observed suspicious activity occurring around a vehicle with an open door. The vehicle was traveling in multiple circles in the parking lot and continued in an erratic pattern. The driver failed several roadside sobriety tests. He was arrested for careless driving and DUI and was left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Monday, Feb. 9
11:05 a.m. An officer was dispatched to Sleeping Ute Apartments, 10 N. Market St., about a possible domestic disturbance. Suspects were located in a car in the area of Chestnut Street and Main Street. It was determined the domestic violence call was unfounded. But a woman in the car had an active warrant out of New Mexico. She was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
9:27 p.m. An officer was dispatched to the Mesa Verde Inn, 1320 Mesa Verde St., to take a report from a woman who said her debit card was used without her permission.
Tuesday, Feb. 10
11:51 a.m. An officer was on patrol at the Cortez Public Library, 202 N. Park St., when he recognized a man who had an active warrant. The man was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
12:25 p.m. An officer was contacted by the 22nd Judicial District Attorney’s office about a SCRAM CAM bracelet being destroyed by a woman who was required to wear it. The officer was attempting to locate the woman to issue her a summons for criminal mischief for damaging the bracelet.
7:56 p.m. An officer was on patrol in the 1400 block of East Empire Street when he observed a yellow Dodge sedan that appeared to be hiding behind a storage container. The driver had an active warrant. He was arrested and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
10:13 p.m. An officer was dispatched to Walmart, 1835 E. Main St., about a man who was harassing people. The suspect appeared to be intoxicated. He was arrested on several protection orders banning the consumption of alcohol and left in custody of Montezuma County Detention Center.
Wednesday, Feb. 11

9:33 a.m. An officer was dispatched to the Montezuma County Detention Center, 730 E. Driscoll St., to issue an active warrant to a male inmate.
