When the final buzzer sounded in Telluride on Feb. 7, the Dove Creek boys basketball team found itself on the wrong end of a 73-36 defeat.
Underlying the lopsided final score however, were signs of progress for the young Bulldogs, who, at times during the contest, gave Telluride all they could handle.
Highlighting the game for the Bulldogs was an offensive outburst during the third quarter, which resulted in 15 points during the frame.
Even with the solid third quarter however, the Bulldogs entered the fourth trailing 58-28 due in large part to a difficult first half that ended with Telluride leading 41-13.
Leading the way for the Bulldogs with 14 points was sophomore Jordan Ernst.
Sophomore Spencer Gatlin contributed seven points while junior Alex Ogas scored five.
Next up for the 1-14 Bulldogs will be a Feb. 11 home matchup against a Dolores team that beat Dove Creek 47-42 earlier this season.
