Away from the wrestling room, Dove Creek High School’s 132-pound wrestling star, Chance Randolph, is soft spoken and polite.
Put Randolph on a wrestling mat however, and the junior grappler transforms into an absolute monster.
Competing with grit and fire not immediately evident from his personality, Randolph enters this year’s 2A State Tournament as one of his division’s finest wrestlers.
After accumulating a 37-7 record this season, Randolph, a three time state qualifier, is hoping to return to the podium after enjoying a third place finish in the 113-pound division two years ago.
“I just want to place and do better than I did last year,” said Randolph, who failed to place in the 120-pound division as a sophomore. “It’s important not to get too nervous and just wrestle.”
Also a star running back on Dove Creek’s football team, Randolph will begin his quest for state glory against Del Norte’s Tyler Martinez (15-14) on Feb. 20.
