Cortez Center for Independence is sponsoring the Cortez Low Vision Expo: April 16 at Empire Electric’s Calvin Denton Room (801 N. Broadway) from 9 am to 2 p.m.
Presenters at the expo will include Lorraine Hutcheson, a state low-vision and rehabilitation therapist at 10 a.m., and a white cane demonstration.
At 11 a.m., Dr. Caitlan Campbell will discuss testing and using devices suitable for low vision consumers. At noon, Dr. Moss Fenberg will speak on vision diseases and care for your eyes.
Lunch will be provided from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. sponsored by the Walmart Foundation. Local service providers will be available with information for the visually impaired community. Software and CCTV vendors will be available for hands-on tryouts of devices for the blind.
Rose Romero, low vision coordinator at the Southwest Center for Independence (2409 East Empire St. in Cortez) will be available at the expo for questions regarding coordination of services for your specific individual vision needs. Home visits and support groups are available to the visually impaired to promote support and independence in daily living.
