The weather was a bit crazy in Dolores on Saturday. Those of us who attended the 2 p.m. showing of Who's Crazy Now? stepped into a full-blown snowstorm afterward. The play was fantastic, and the weather itself proved to be the "crazy" one, since it had been beautiful Friday - nearly 70 degrees. The snow came quickly and covered the football field behind Dolores High School, just in time for the semipro football game between the New Mexico Miners and the Grand Junction Gladiators.

Dolores High School football Coach Chris Trusler said the snow cut down the size of the crowd, but made the game interesting.

"It was a really good game with lot of turnovers," he said.

The field was slick, and yardlines had to be shoveled. In the end, the Grand Junction Gladiators walked away with a 9-6 win.

Trusler said he hopes to bring semipro football to town again.

Rider headed to championships

Dolores native Kinzee Shull will compete in the national championships this weekend for the Intercollegiate Horse Show Association in Harrisburg, Pa. Shull competes in the horsemanship competition against others from colleges across the U.S. She is the daughter of Scott and Lenetta Shull and attends college in Texas.

Wind knocks out power

It was windy in Dolores on Tuesday. If fact, it was so windy that just before noon, the power went partially out across town. High winds apparently blew over a large sign in town, and the sign hit power lines. At the schools, power was partially out. Crews from Empire Electric were quick on the scene and had to shut the power off to do repairs. The power was off for about 8 minutes. The partial outage across town lasted over an hour.

Durango goes Dolores

I took my family to Durango on Monday because there was no school in Dolores. It was strange to walk around the mall and see only people from Dolores. Apparently, we were the only ones off.
