Montezuma Plywood will reopen on Monday, Sept. 16, with all their work force being called back to work as regular three-shift days get underway. The plant will resume operations on Monday, Sept. 16 at 7 a.m. with green end, sawmill and planer operations. A Plywood Plant spokesman said this week that they don't know how many men will be coming back as some of them surely have gotten other employment during the time the plant has been closed. The Montezuma Plywood Company was closed down on July 12 due to the depressed building materials market.

Danger from forest and range fires is extreme in southwestern Colorado according to Marlyn Jones, Montrose District Manager for the Bureau of Land Management.
A blaze in the North Fork of the Gunnison area was not reported to us until Saturday afternoon, 24 hours after others were apparently aware of it. Two retardant drops by bombers Saturday slowed the fire until men could get on it.
With a few more kids registering every day, enrollment at the Dolores Schools is expected to reach or even surpass the level of enrollment last year. As of Wednesday, enrollment was down 12 students from last year in the elementary grades and down only 5 students in the junior-senior high. Kindergarten through fifth grade averages 38 students this year when last year these grades averaged 40 student but the big bulge in enrollment comes this year in the 7, 8 and 9 grades which total 164 students.
