Congressman Edw. T. Taylor and his secretary, Mr. High, were visitors in Dolores last Friday and made a pleasant call upon various people in town and the Star office. Mr. Taylor seemed in excellent health and fine spirits and is as enthusiastic about the needs and desires of western Colorado as he was twenty years ago. After lunch here the two gentlemen made their way out of town toward Rico, intending to reach Telluride that evening. They were cautioned about he dangers of the Dolores-Rico section of the road and said they would drive very carefully.
The funeral services of the late Wm. Ritter were held last Friday afternoon at Memorial Hall. A large crowd of people was present to pay their last respects to this esteemed citizen.
The annual dinner for persons of 70 years or more will be given at noon Saturday, Oct. 6, at the M. E. church annex. This event is sponsored by the different organizations of Dolores and they extend this invitation to all persons of this community who have reached the age of 70 years or more to come out Saturday and enjoy this occasion of a pleasant get-together and dinner.
According to a recent announcement in the Farmington Times-Hustler, Albert Stroud, of this place, is soon to open a general merchandise store in Farmington. Mr. Stround has leased the former Hunter Mercantile Co. building and according to the statement, "will open a department store about Nov. 1."
Charles Elder, of Dolores, and Miss Carrie Gilliland, of Cortez, were united in marriage before Judge Brumley at the Brumley home, Wednesday evening. Both young folks are well and favorably known in Dolores and surrounding communities and have many friends to wish them happiness.
Hal Martin and Mrs. Otho Morrison arrived in Dolores Monday evening to visit with their sister, Mrs. Henry McConnell and other relatives and friends in Dolores this week.
Mrs. Bryant Bauer and son went to Mancos Monday to visit the week with Mrs. Mae McGalliard.
Friends of Dr. and Mrs. F. T. Clark have received word that they are having a grand time on their trip through Wisconsin and Indiana.
Dr. H. C. Lefurgey is having his office rooms redecorated this week.
Dr. H. C. Lefurgey left Wendesday for California, where he will visit his brother who has been critically ill for some time.
J. B. Gelwick went over to Ignacio Sunday and spent until Tuesday evening looking after business affairs in that district.
