There was much talk about the storm over the weekend. And many of us had high hopes as it seemed to drop snow on the Front Range.
We braced ourselves for the worst. But, alas, when the storm hit the Four Corners it didn't have much in it. It appears the mountains protected us from the worst.
On Saturday and Sunday mornings most of us awoke to a mere dusting of snow.
The temperatures, however, reminded us that winter is very nearly upon us.
Some say it got as low as 14 degrees and the wind howled on Sunday, making it feel much, much colder.
Mountains did get snow
Speaking of snow, while the snow situation in Dolores, Cortez and Mancos was a bit disappointing, local ski resorts did see a bit of the white stuff.
Telluride is reporting a 23-inch base and is expecting to open on Nov. 27. Durango Mountain Resort reported 16 inches of snow and is expecting to open on Nov. 28.
Sidewalks look good
The sidewalks in Dolores are finished and looking really good. Too bad they will soon be covered in snow, at least we are hoping we get snow soon.
Turkey dinners
Two local churches are planning a dinner or two for the upcoming holiday. The Summit Lake Community Church will offer its Community Thanksgiving Dinner at the church at 5 p.m. Nov. 23. Turkey and trimmings are provide but attendees are asked to bring a side dish or dessert. The church is located at 36501 Colorado 184, across from Summit Lake. For more information, call 882-4414.
The Mountain View Baptist Church in Dolores, said this year, they are going to deliver Thanksgiving dinners to families in need.
Fracking interest
I'm told that a few Dolores folk attended the two-day training on Fracking at the Mancos Public Library. The event was very well attended and I am told to expect more local, educational events.
Bingo a success
There was a big crowd Tuesday night at the Dolores Community Center. The crowd ate soup and played bingo for a good cause.
The money raised went toward the Dolores Rotary Club's Lighting Fund. The Dolores Rotary Club has lit the beautiful light display on the southern hillside in Dolores now for over 50 years.
The lights are expected to start glowing the day after Thanksgiving.
The Dolores Chamber of Commerce served the soup dinner.
