"I had just finished riding the really hard section of the trail and then I hit a soft spot on a flat section," he said.
Jones fell to the side and onto his collar bone.
It broke in two places.
"The doctor said I don't need surgery, but to drink lots of milk," he laughed.
In addition, Jones is doing arm exercises and keeps it in a sling when it starts to hurt.
"It's healing," he said.
Jones didn't let the injury ruin his Thanksgiving. He was still able to make dinner with his girlfriend and even made fresh cranberry sauce, he said.
Lizardhead Cyclery will stay open. But he plans to close on Mondays and Tuesdays during the winter and will be open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
"I'm going to keep helping people and will keep doing bike repairs," he said.
BMX track
Speaking of bikes, there seems to be a growing number of people interested in starting a BMX bike track behind the basketball courts at Joe Rowell Park. Stay tuned for more details.
Christmas lizard
When talking to Nicholas Ian Tyson Jones recently, I asked if he's going to decorate the lizard on his sign this year. In years prior, it wore a hat and was decked out in lights.
Jones said he wasn't the decorator.
"Customers decorated my sign last year," he said. "I got to the shop, and there was a note that said, 'Please don't get mad, but we decorated your lizard.'"
Jones said he'll likely build a reindeer out of bikes to add to the Christmas display.
Non-traditional
Most locals enjoyed a beautiful day on Thanksgiving and sat down to a traditional meal, but a few went against the grain.
One family told me they sat down to a Mexican feast.
And my family encountered many hikers in Utah canyon country. A lot of us had the same idea.
Craft shows
Dolores will be the place to be this Saturday. Don't forget the Christmas Bazaar at the Dolores Community Center and the Holiday Arts and Crafts Show at the Dolores River Brewery. In addition, stop by all the other local stores in Dolores. It's a fun time to shop local.
