February offers a few new activities - and my personal favorite, curling up with a book.
Tech Tuesdays will be offered every Tuesday from 2 to 5 p.m. This time has been set aside at the library to give one-on-one computer help for those struggling with everything from opening and printing documents to building resumes. Stop by with your questions about Microsoft Word, email, digital pictures, etc. Call or come in to schedule a session: 882-4127.
Library director Debra Ely said the Lego Club has been a huge success with the younger crowd and will be offered again Feb. 6 from 2 to 3:30 at the library.
"They sit and build with Legos and have a blast," Ely said.
Because Ely displays the creations in the library, those that participate work hard to complete their masterpieces.
Ely said she has been offering the Lego Club at the library on the Fridays there is no school in session.
On Feb. 18 at 1 p.m. Ely said there will be a class at the library about e-mail basics.
"We get a lot of people that just need help with email basics, and I hope this class will be valuable," she said.
Another exciting thing going on at the Dolores Public Library is the addition of Tumble Books. At the bottom of doloreslibrary.org, you should see a little blue book that has arms and legs and looks like it's ready to do a cartwheel. This is a great resource for young readers and parents. The site is full of e-books to read along with children.
February Concerts at the brewery
Two new concerts are heating up at the Dolores River Brewery. The first is T Bird and the Breaks on Friday, Feb. 13, at 8 p.m. Tickets cost $10. T Bird and the Breaks is an R&B/Soul band from Austin, Texas.
The second band will play Feb. 28. LaLa Bones, a bluegrass band from Durango, will play their locally famous bluegrass starting at 8 p.m. The band features dobro, banjo, mandolin, fiddle, guitar and bass and will have you howling at the moon.
Ponderosa Restaurant Anniversary
Deanna Truelsen, owner of the Ponderosa Restaurant, will celebrate 33 years (or is it 32?) of ownership of the restaurant around Valentine's Day.
Speaking of Valentines Day, don't miss dinner at the Ponderosa. It will serve prime rib.
Cross country skiing
Skiing around Dolores is out of the question lately with the warm snap and the wet rain/snow on Saturday.
Boggy, I am told is muddy, and Chicken Creek near is also finished. But, there is still cross-country skiing to be had near Lizard Head Pass.
