The Dolores Bears came home from the State Basketball Tournament after losing two games, which put them out of further competition in Denver for this year. Nervous fingers that could not hold onto the ball and foul trouble were the Bears' worst enemies in Denver and proved more effective in putting the local group on the downhill side of the scores than the prowess of the teams they faced.
Stockholders of Empire Electric will be making a trip to Dove Creek this Saturday, March 22 for the company's annual meeting. A free lunch for members and their families will be served at noon with registration starting at 10 a.m. at Memorial Hall. An Electric Fair featuring displays from Taylor Hardware and Corky's Plumbing and Heating in Dolores along with several merchants and organization from throughout the Empire area will be held for all to see.
One of the most important decisions in recent years for Montezuma County residents will come up for a vote on April 15 when the proposal for a hospital district is voted on. All of the preliminary steps required by law have been met and District Judge W. W. Rusk on Tuesday signed the order permitting the election which will also provide for naming of a seven member board for the district.
All dogs in the city limits of Dolores must have their city license by April 1. If they do not the dogs will be picked up and the owners will have to appear in court. Dogs not claimed will be disposed of.
Contests are shaping up in the biennial school election being held in the Dolores District Re4a on May 6 with Friday, today, as the final day for candidates to file their petitions. Several petitions were still out as of Thursday morning but races in two of the three director district where seats are open this year can already be seen.
An Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Friday, March 21 for kindergarten and first grade pupils only from noon to 3 p.m. at the Cortez City Park. Each child is asked to bring three decorated hard boiled eggs. Children will be transported to the park in school buses.
Mr. and Mrs. Eddie McRae vacationed in Texas recently and on the way home stopped to visit with Mrs. McRae's mother in Truth or Consequences. Her mother had suffered a back injury so Vera McRae stayed there for two weeks to help, returning home on Saturday.
Lee Stephens entertained the Tuesday bridge club last week.
Art Nielson was released from Southwest Memorial Hospital last Wednesday where he had been a patient for a week following surgery. He was by the Star office on Monday of this week and says he is feeling pretty good and was out and around, getting some exercise.
Mrs. Floyd Ball was the guest of honor for a birthday dinner at the home of her daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Umberger on Sunday, March 9. Other guests included Mr. and Mrs. Steve Umberger and family.
Dart Nielson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Art Nielson, and other ROTC members left for Colorado Springs Wednesday on a ROTC trip. They plan to return home on Saturday.
Mrs. Lee Stephens, son Brad, and daughter Debbie who was home for spring break from Ft. Lewis College, spent the first week of March in Phoenix visiting with Mr. and Mrs. Steve Rexius.
Dolores Rainbow Girls served the Eastern Star banquet at the Methodist Church on Monday evening. The girls served over 90 Eastern Star members and guests.
The flu has been making visits to many homes in Dolores during the past weeks with several new cases reported to us this week.
Jim McRae is home, for spring break from Denver University, at the home of his parents in Cortez, Mr. and Mrs. Eddie McRae.
Mr. and Mrs. Pat Marmon returned home this week after being in Kansas for two weeks. Mrs. Marman's father passed away while they were there. His mother, Mrs. Mamie Marman came home with them after being in Missouri for several months.
