Cahone Boy Dies of Rattlesnake Bite
The five-year-old adopted son of Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd Johnson, of Cahone, died Saturday at the Cortez hospital after having been bitten by a rattlesnake in the yard of the Johnson home.
The boy evidently did not know what the snake was nor that it was dangerous and had picked up the reptile and was playing with it. The boy started into the house with the snake when it bit him on the hand. He dropped the snake and ran crying into the house. Everything possible was done to save the child's life but to no avail.
Chas. H. Rash has P.O. Appointment
Chas. H. Rach has received his appointment as postmaster at Dolores and took over the duties and responsibility of the position Wednesday night.
The appointment of Mr. Rash to this position meets with general satisfaction and it is believed that he will fill the place in a way that will leave little to be desired. Mr. Green, the retiring postmaster, will continue in the office as assistant postmaster, it is understood.
McDaniels Bros. Reported on the Go
The McDaniels brothers seem to have the ability of the proverbial flea, from the way they jump around, if accounts of their having been seen in various widely separated localities are to be believed.
The latest report of the appearance of the two killers came from Erie, Colorado, where they are said to have accepted a ride from James A. Barclay, of Denver.
Black Bear Mine Ready to Start Operations Soon
According to an announcement from Telluride, the Black Bear mine will shortly be in a position to resume operations on a large scale.
The Black Bear is one of the best mines in southwest Colorado and capable of giving employment to several hundred men, but has been shut down for twenty years or more on account of litigation.
Forest Service and CCC Are Building New Road
The forest service is building a road up Cottonwood canyon, above the forks of the Dolores river, which will connect with the Dolores-Norwood road just beyond the drift fence.
The road which will be seven miles long, will be of great convenience to stock men and in fighting forest fires. The road will follow up Cottonwood canyon and cross over the divide and drop down Long draw to the connection with the Dolores road.
New Sheriff, New Car
Montezuma county's newly appointed sheriff, Jesse Robinson, has bought himself a new Ford V-8 sedan, for use in discharge of his official duties. He says he hopes to be able to give crooks a lively run for their money, at least.
Narraguinnep Picnic
So as far as we know, things are all set for the Sunday school picnic at Narraguinnep next Sunday. We have no definite arrangements with the weatherman, but if he dampens our plans for next Sunday we will try the following Sunday.
