There were lots of fun activities to partake in at Escalante Days last weekend. The Dolores Rotary Club gave away five bikes at the kids bike rodeo on Friday evening. Despite the rain, the kids had fun cruising around, riding over ramps and following arrows on the course. They all received a free snazzy bike helmet. There was also a kids parade to enjoy.
Classic favorites
At Flander's Park on Saturday, the sun was out, and the fun continued. There was a watermelon-eating contest, three-legged race, and penny hunt, sponsored by the Depot, Dolores Liquors, and the Dolores State Bank, respectively. The Traditional Charm Antique Mall put on a stomp rocket competition. There was an ice cream-eating contest, organized by the Dolores General Store. The Dolores Food Market sponsored the egg toss, and Riverfront Bar and Grill put on two favorites, the arm-wrestling and and chain saw contests.
Debbie Akin and Deborah Hager's help with the events were much appreciated. Thank you to the town and the community for such a fun weekend.
Coordination
The Dolores High School cheer team coordinated the games this year. They spent a week teaching pee wee cheer campers a dance to the Jungle Book song "Bear Necessities," and the campers did an excellent job at their performance after the parade.
Krystle Hager, Krystal Davis, and Sydney Giddings put on small performance of their own and rocked it.
