Summer break for Dolores students came to an end on Wednesday as the Dolores school year began. Last weekend, as the thermostat consistently rose into the 80s, families spent their last few days before the back to school routine in a variety of ways: last minute vacations, out and about, school shopping, visiting friends, or relaxing at home.
Free entrance to national parks
The end of summer break does not mean the end of summer. Aug. 25, which is next Friday, is a great time to continue soaking up the sun. Aug. 25 is the 99th birthday of the National Park Service. To celebrate, entrance to all national parks is free.
The next free entry day will be National Public Lands Day on Sept. 26, and Veterans Day on November 11th. Go check out what nature has to offer.
Lake days
For some people, the lake is more their scene. Doc's Outdoor Sports and Recreation has new hours, and a couple of new boats for rent. They will be open from 8 a.m to 7 p.m. now. They are also gathering tips and testimonials to put on their website. If you would like to contribute, let them know so that it can be added to the website.
Paddle board winners
Winners of the paddle board raffle put on by the Rotary Club are Sam Yount who won first, and then Ryan Maley was the second place cash winner. A total of two hundred and eighty six tickets were sold. The profit went to the Spirit Council for Dolores High School Security, RYLA, and the Dolores High School Football Team for their locker room.
Gearing up for the state fair
Twelve 4-H Archers are attending the state fair in Pueblo. They are: Stetson Hamilton and Tel Hamilton of Dolores, Isiah Wright, Brandy Borgen, Jayden Karo, Casen Allmon, Airoughn Vangranett, Maddisyn Vangranett, Cael Schmittel, Braden Schmittel, Austin McCoy, and Stetson Scott.
Krystle Hager of Dolores will also be at state fair. In addition to her cake decorating, she will be going for fine arts.
The 11-day event begins on Aug. 28.
