Montezuma-Cortez High School students Andrei Hious and Gabe Frizzell are nearing the end of the 2016 Colorado High School Cycling League season.
Hious, a sophomore, and Frizzell, a freshman, ride for High Desert Composite, a cross-country mountain bike racing team in Cortez started by Pete Eschallier, Jason Hernandez and Noah Vega.
There are four races in the season prior to the state championship.
The first race was the Frisco Bay Invitational, where Hious finished in 11th place in the sophomore boys division and Frizzell took 29th in the freshman boys group.
And then was the Cloud City Challenge in Leadville, where Hious finished 22nd.
Last Sunday was the Granby Ranch Roundup, where Hious took 20th place and Frizzell finished 55th.
The final race of the series before the state championship is the Chalk Creek Stampede on October 8-9 in Nathrop.
Interested high school riders are still able to join the team and ride at practice and in the final race.
