Petition time is over, campaign season is now set to begin.
Incumbent District Attorney Russell Wasley is now officially on the ballot for the 22nd Judicial District Attorney Republican primary election.
Wasley will oppose challenger William Furse, who was selected to be on the ballot at the county assembly.
The Secretary of State Office confirmed Thursday that Wasley had more than enough valid signatures on his petition to be included on the ballot. Wasley needed 869 valid signatures. He turned in a total of 1,723 signatures and 365 were rejected, giving him an official total of 1,358.
The local Republican primary ballots are now official.
The District 2 Montezuma County commissioner race has three candidates: Keenan Ertel, Pat DeGagne-Rule and Bud Garner. In the District 3 Republican race, voters will decide between Dewayne Findley and Casey McClellan.
The deadline for ballots to be mailed out is Friday, June 8, according to the County Clerks Office.
The primary is scheduled for Tuesday, June 26. All ballots must be in the hands of the County Clerks Office by 7 p.m. on that day to be counted.
The last day to register to vote, or change or withdraw from a major political party affiliation is Tuesday, May 29.
There will be a ballot drop off located in the new location of the clerks office at 140 W. Main St., Suite 1.
The last day to register to vote for the Nov. 6 general election is Tuesday, Oct. 9.
County Clerk Carol Tullis asks that voters keep their voting record up to date. Online options to register to vote or make any changes to an individual record can be made at www.sos@state.co.us click on Elections and Voting. Voters can register, make changes to ones record or verify voting status by following the prompts.
