The freshman and first-grade classes and all new students will be given TB tests at the Dolores Schools Tuesday, Sept. 12. They will be given permission slips to be taken home and signed by their parents and returned to school before being given the tests.

Mr. and Mrs. James Porter returned Tuesday from a very special trip to Texas where they attended the wedding of their granddaughter, Miss Susan Elizabeth Porter to Mike Goetz of Coupland, Texas.

The Dolores Future Farmers of America now have their display of their grain exhibits sent to the Colorado State Fair set up in the window of the Dolores Star. The boys did rather well in the state fair competition and will have their sheaves of grain and ribbons where the public can see them.

Project SUN, a federally funded bilingual program, has now begun its third year in five area schools. The program operated under the Southwest Board of Cooperative Services will provide bilingual teachers and aides through the second grade level this year.

Town board members at a meeting held Wednesday night hired a new water superintendent and filed one vacancy on the board.

New water superintendent, chosen out of 10 applicants, is Robert Markle, Jr., of Farmington. He is married and has four children.

Hazel Smith has been helping Faye and Froed Kelly move from their trading post on the Ute Indian Reservation boundary to their new home in Cortez. Faye Kelly is in Mercy Hospital at the present time. Cards and letters would be appreciated.

A come and go wedding shower was held for Karen Payne on Tuesday evening at 7 p.m. at the Community Room of the Dolores State Bank. Hostesses for the shower were Kathy Jacques, Mary Sesler and Donna Lucero. Mrs. Payne is the former Karen Beckham of Dolores.

Laurie, Jonnie Sue and Shawna Ryan went to Colbran to visit their grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Ryan, over the Labor Day weekend. Steve Saltsgaver took them up.

Bert Lincoln came home from Denver for the Labor Day weekend. He returned to Denver on Monday. Doug Harrington and Sheryl Speer rode down with him.

Keat and Viva McEwen were in Dolores visiting from Wednesday of last week until Monday. They spent two days at their cabin up the river and spent the rest of the time as guests of Marie McEwen, Keat and Viva are living in Phoenix now.
