Sporting singlets with large D’s on the back and smiles on their faces, 69 youth wrestlers representing the Dolores Wrestling Club took to the mats in Blanding, Utah, on March 10 for the Blanding Brawl wrestling tournament.
Of the Dolores club members who competed, 21 brought home top honors in their respective age divisions. First-place winners included Bryson Higman, Ryatt Loomis, Jaxx Robson, Hunter Ferguson, Tommy Gonzales, Daniel Jacket, Nico Martinez, JJ Robson, Brooks Story, Marshal Wickstrom, Jaiden Green, Darren Hicks, Degan Lake, Tristan Schuster, Jacob Strepp, Teagun Samora, River Wickstrom, Levi Fuller, Amadeo Martinez, Ethen Robson, and Daniel Stepp.
Dolores club members finishing second place in their respective divisions included Liam Ferguson, Marques Balfour, Kyle Black, True Loomis, Daniel Philpott, Jordan Yazzie, Xavier DeJesus, Bodie Stiegelmeyer, Zachary Taylor, Michael Millard, and William Taylor.
Third-place finishers for Dolores included Aiden Brito, Adam Kicks, Thane Robbins, Madisyn Schuster, Kendrick McPherson, Brett Spore, Akima Edwards, Carter Galloway, Braden Schmittle, Kaleb Grider, and Triston Scott.
Zaine Johnson-Ward, Isaac Dozal, Tyler Ham, Christian Torres, and Dillion Eichner all finished in 4th place in their respective divisions.
According to Eileen Eichner, who serves as an assistant coach and administrator for the Dolores Wrestling Club, 75 wrestlers between from 4 to 14 years of age are signed up for the upcoming spring season.
Club members will compete in several tournaments throughout the Four Corners, and the club will host a tournament in Dolores on April 7.
