Sixty-nine students at Durango High School were placed on self-quarantine Tuesday after contact with a 9-R employee who is exhibiting symptoms of COVID-19 and has tested inclusively for the virus.
Durango High School assistant coach Ryan Woolverton has had to deal with CHSAA and the governor’s decision regarding the postponement of high school football as a parent and a coach. He said the emotional roller coaster the last two days has taken a toll emotionally on the players.
Ignacio head coach Alfonso “Ponch” Garcia said it would have been a miracle if CHSAA reversed course and approved a fall football season this weekend, even after getting the blessing from Gov. Jared Polis.

Dozens of the Montezuma County Patriots showed up Tuesday night for a Cortez City Council discussion about the group’s Saturday morning rides, held downtown on Main Street, which coincide with the Walk for Justice and Peace.
Tiffany Ghere, organizer of the Montezuma County Patriots rides, said that she would not partake in a discussion with members of the Walk for Justice and Peace until the Cortez City Council understood her group’s message. She invited councilors to join them on a Saturday ride.
The Montezuma County Patriots expressed their support for law enforcement and respect for members of the military and veterans at the Cortez City Council meeting on Tuesday.
The Rural Jump-Start program offers new businesses in Montezuma County, or businesses that move there, relief from state income and sales taxes, as well as county and municipal personal property taxes for the business. Relief from state income taxes for employees also is offered.
